I'll get there, really.

Just wanted to let you know, I'm aware I skipped a few days on my Photo of the Day project. I actually do have photos for those, I just haven't gotten around to processing and posting them. I'm headed to PPNC convention for a few days, and I promise I'll get you more photos to enjoy when I'm back. Have a great weekend!

February 26, 2010 Photo of the Day - Zucchini

Another trip to the grocery store today. Do you know how many cool shots can be created in the produce section of your local store? I’m sure this will not be the last shot in our year long adventure in photography. Anyone wanna bake some bread?

February 25, 2010 Photo of the Day - Windblown

The wind was whipping the wood right off this workshop door today, I loved the textures. I wish you could have seen these strips dancing in the wind, it was beautiful.

February 24, 2010 Photo of the Day - Hot Now

OK, if ya aint from ‘round here, this is the siren call of dedicated donut lovers in my part of the world. Krispy Kreme makes the most wonderful doughnuts ever, and the only thing better is if you can get them still hot. They turn the neon sign on when they have fresh hot ooey gooey sugary sweet delicious doughnuts waiting for me to come get them. Gotta go…

February 23, 2010 Photo of the Day - Paintbrushes

Girly paintbrushes, that is. I know you guys wont understand this, but for us girls it's a small thrill to get a new set of makeup brushes. Maybe kinda like a new set of screwdrivers when you already have a set...???

February 19, 2010 - Photo of the Day - Ready for Work

I see them every day. Sometimes I even trip over them. Today I saw the rugged beauty in them. My husband's work boots.

February 18, 2010 - Photo of the Day - Measuring Up

I used to sew a lot, and as I went in search of my photo of the day, I found my tape measure. Texture, color, shape-everything was there. I never know what is going to inspire my photo each day-that's part of the adventure. It's photographed on my dining room table, an antique I inherited from my mother.

February 17, 2010 - Photo of the Day - Guitar

My husband Randy has a guitar collection. Don't bother asking me how many, I have no idea. I can't play them, but I can admire the craftsmanship. I can tell you they take up a lot more space than a thimble collection, or even a camera collection. ;-D They're also a lot prettier than thimbles or cameras. I'd say the odds are strong that you'll see more guitar photos as Photo's of the Day throughout the rest of this year.
This one was custom made for Don Ivey, our friend who used to own Ivey Music. It features abalone inlay and a quilted maple top.

February 16, 2010 - Photo of the Day - Spring IS coming!

I was just about to give up hope of Spring returning to my world. Seems like I've been cold for years. Then I spotted these daffodil sprouts, and my heart rejoiced! I always think of daffodils as the most cheerful flower I've ever seen, and I'm fascinated by the shape and intricate construction of them. Let the warming trend commence!

February 11, 2010 - Photo of the Day - Keeping Us Safe

Today's pic is a little thank you to the Boys in Blue who spend their days and nights making our communities better places to be. I took a few hours and did a ride along with an Archdale Police Officer last year, and it was an experience I will never forget. Thanks, officer Coats, and to all your comrades as well.

February 15, 2010 - Photo of the Day - Homestead

When I stumble upon a scene like this, I wonder at the stories that are part of the creation of such a place. There must be hundreds of untold stories that either start or end here at this exact place. I find myself trying to imagine what this spot looked like 100 years ago, what it took to complete this unique and beautiful farm house, how many children and cats have played in these barns?

I'm guessing that this old farm has been around for decades, it certainly shows the signs that a family has loved and cared for it. Unfortunately, this is one of those times when a photo just doesn't do it justice.

February 14, 2010 - Photo of the Day - Showin' Off

This beautiful goose looks like he's showin' off for the ladies on Valentine's Day, or maybe crooning out a love song. I can't imagine what it would feel like to go swimming on a day this cold, so I was impressed already.

February 13, 2010 - Photo of the Day - Snow God

Only a man of steel could stand unflinching in the weather we had Saturday while scantily clad. Or perhaps he's the god of Snow? If so, I hope he's been appeased now, and willing to let us enjoy some time with the goddess of Spring.

Video - Photos from a class I taught for PPNC.

I just have to share this little video. A few weeks ago I taught a class for the Professional Photographers of North Carolina about the use of fabrics in portraiture. These two beautiful young ladies, Brittany and Rachel, were our models for a little part of the day, and they were awesome! I photographed Brittany, the blonde, a while back for her senior portraits. With beautiful faces like these, how can you go wrong? My students were half from around Charlotte, and half from Virginia, and we had such a good time.I made some great new friends, and can't wait to see them at convention in a couple of weeks.

February 11, 2010 - Photo of the Day - Big Green Machine

Sometimes you take a wrong turn and end up somewhere better than where you were going in the first place. That's sorta what happened today. I had seen a row of hayrolls over the weekend, and went to photograph them today when I found a big green machine in the field. Love the rust, and the cheerful color. This shot was just much cooler than the hay. Hope you enjoy!

February 10, 2010 - Photo of the Day - Shadow Play

Sometimes I enjoy seeing the shadows more than the object. The clean lines of the siding on this building accent the natural flowing shapes of the branches and remind me that straight lines are seldom found in nature. The building is the Regan House in Archdale, NC. It's on the National Register of Historic Places, and currently serves as home to Ed Price Realty. Photographed shortly after daybreak.

February 9, 2010 - Photo of the Day - Fire & Ice

Sometimes the best tool to have in your camera bag is an unbrella. The weather today was miserable, with cold rain and sleet. This firey shrub was collecting the freezing rain, burrrrr!

February 8, 2010 - Photo of the Day - No, It's Not a Spaceship

Well...this is one of those days where the photo didn't come easily. I was on my way home from a seminar in Charlotte that lasted until 10:30 at night and still didn't have my photo. I decided I would drive into Thomasville and get a shot of "The Big Chair," but wouldn't you know it, there wasn't enough light on it to even try. So imagine this, I'm driving around town in the middle of the night, trying to keep one eye on the road and scan my surroundings for something cool to photograph with the other. I figure any minute a town cop is going to pull me over for being suspicious.

The iconic, world record breaking Big Chair in the center of town square wasn't lit, but this water tower was lit up like a Christmas tree just glowing in the sky. Anybody else see any humor in that?

I'm trying to think of some way to make the tower look cool, and decided that I needed to be underneath it. It reminded me of a spaceship at the time. However, looking at the finished image, it reminds me a lot of a jellyfish. Kinda funny, jellyfish live in water, and this tank is full of water. OK, it was funny in my head. In the end, this is a much more creative image than I would have gotten with the Big Chair.

February 7, 2010 - Photo of the Day - Glass & Bricks

I had a shot in mind today in High Point's showroom district, but on my way to get it I noticed this building. (Funny how you can drive by things so many times without noticing them.) I love textures and reflections, and having both in the same scene made this a scene that I just had to make the photo for today. Don't worry, I'll get the other one I had in mind another day--we've got almost 11 months left of our little adventure.

February 6, 2010 - Photo of the Day - The Snow Mower

Sorry it's taken so long to get back up to date with my project. I've created a photo every day, but just now getting them posted to share.

This lawnmower looked awful lonely sitting out there in the snow.

February 5, 2010 - Photo of the Day - Just Add Water

Today's photo is an experiment with light, time, and motion. Lit with a flashlight, this long exposure captures the flow of the water as it's poured into the bowl. There are little wonders all around us that our eyes can't even see.

February 4, 2010 - Photo of the Day - The Quilt

This quilt was made by my Grandmother Trella as a wedding gift for me. As a young bride I was happy to receive it as a symbol of my new life as a married woman, but looking at it today I truly appreciate it. I have no idea how many hours she spent cutting, sewing, and hand quilting all those little pieces together to create something for me that is both beautiful and useful. It has outlived her, and I hope it will outlive me as well.

Photo of the Day - February 3, 2010 - Blue Morn'

This scene was taken on the campus of Thomasville Medical Center hospital this morning. There was a wonderful blanket of fog, and the sun was just coming over the edge of the earth--breathtaking!

February 2, 2010 – Photo of the Day – Don't forget your Vitamin C

Here's my favorite way to add Vitamin C to my diet. Smells good, tastes good, looks good, helps keep you healthy....that makes it pretty dogone close to perfect doesn't it? Looks like we're going to need it after the groundhog forcast today.

February 1, 2010 - Photo of the Day - Fire and Ice

I'm driving down the road, keeping an eye out for interesting ideas for my Photo of the Day. I saw some really creative snowmen, and one snowbunny, and had almost decided to photograph one when I started noticing the fire hydrants poking up through the snow. That splash of red against the white snow just drew my eye. Happily none of the cars driving by splashed me with dirty snow slush. ;-)

January 31, 2010 Photo of the Day - Drip...drip...drip.

This icicle was hanging off the bumper of my Jeep yesterday, just dripping along in the sunshine. It took 4 tries, but I finally caught this shot just as the drop of water left the icicle.

January 30, 2010 Photo of the Day - Salt Truck

Just for the record, it's not really safe to drive on slick roads while you photograph the snow plow in front of you.  For that matter, it's not a good idea to be out on the roads of North Carolina on a day when the snow plows are needed.

January 29, 2010 Photo of the Day - Pull

The pulls on my kitchen drawers. I love the texture!
